Masai Mara 2026

There are journeys that end when you come back home.
And then there are those that truly begin only after.

For me, the Masai Mara was one of those. Silence. Distance. Waiting. And then something shifts…
Without words. Without explanations.

From Nairobi, the first gaze and you immediately understand that you are not the only one observing.

On the way to the Mara, along a road that stays with you forever red dust and endless horizons.

There, everything becomes essential: light, space, life, sunrise and sunset.
I step, with respect, into the life of the Maasai community.

I observe. I listen. I learn.

And then… them. Lions, pure presence.

Giraffes, suspended in time. Hippos, silent, united, guardians of an invisible balance.

Jackals, hyenas… eyes that see everything.

And all around, life flowing… Wildebeest, buffalo, antelopes… And above… the sky.
Wings of raptors tracing endless paths.

Time taking shape. Everything becomes a subject. Nothing excluded.

And in all of this, before even picking up the camera,
there is the gaze.

Through my Leica Noctivid 10x42 I observed, followed, previsualised.

Because photography, for me, does not begin with the shot.
It begins long before.
First, I enter the scene.
I breathe it in.
I follow it
. I study it.
Only then do I pick up the camera.

In this world, we must not be invasive. We must understand, even at the cost of missing a shot. Because truly living the moment is the only way to know it.

And only then does what you create become unique.

Today, there are many of us.
Same equipment.
Same places.
Same titles.
But what makes the difference is not what you have. It is how you choose to be there.

The uniqueness of a project and the ethics behind it are what remain. It is not just about looking. It is not just about photographing. It is about truly living. And here, a greater responsibility begins. A photographer carries an important role: we have the power to give eternity to a moment. That alone is already immense.

But what I want to do is even more difficult and driven by deep passion.

I want to observe every scene. Follow it. Move closer through my gaze, even through the binoculars, to truly understand it. Then photograph it. But above all… live it. To imprint every step into memory. Not to save the world but to make the world of every person I can reach, of every animal I encounter, a better place.

This is where “If you look at me… I exist” evolves.

Beyond photography. Beyond the documentary. I want to act.
Healthcare.
Medical support.
Veterinary care.
Education.

Why such a mission? In the end, I am just a photographer…

But I believe we cannot simply take and walk away.
Especially when we love nature. Especially when we immerse ourselves so deeply within it. Because the children of these villages are the future.

The future of their land. Of our untouched nature.
One day, they will be the ones to protect all of this.

We cannot only take. We must also give where something is missing.

And this is not someone else’s responsibility. It belongs to all of us.
This is not just a journey. It is work. It is the first step of a documentary, a real story.

Elisabetta Levis and Massimo Vallarin.
Guides. Rangers. A constant presence in the field.

“If you see me, I do exist" is two years old.

Two years of images. Of stories. Of collected truths. The Masai Mara marks a turning point
from telling… to building. And perhaps this is what transforms you. Not what you see but what you choose to do with it.

At night in the Mara, the sky ignites. The stars take your breath away. The fire accompanies dinner. And in the darkness, the calls of animals remain. It is not fear. It is presence. You are inside something alive. And you can no longer stay outside of it.

This journey is not observation.
It is contact. With nature. With people. With ourselves. It is no longer about looking. It is about being there.

If you look at me… I exist
